With a steaming mug of hot lemon water near my yoga mat, it is flexibility I seek.
Sometimes the way to stretch ourselves, to become more flexible, is by way of another’s viewpoint, of course y’all know this.
We can do this by walking in another’s shoes. There are many ways to do this symbolically since their physical shoes will not, more than likely be a Cinderella fit, all however require us to be mindfully observant, to be a good caring listener, to quietly gather knowledge so as to be aware of the bigger picture…you know, walk a mile in love shoes, and keep walking!
Books and film as documentaries, histories, biographies, and lectures are wonderful ways to learn about other times, people, and cultures, just make sure that the creators of this information didn’t cherry pick and/or purposely select a very one-sided or propagandized view, whether slightly or overtly. Sources and intentions should be paid due diligence for integrity and truth, (can use scientific based kinesiology to verify). Make note how “loosely” based a movie or book is and maybe just enjoy the entertainment value.
Historical fiction can be worthwhile, with real or composites of real people and or made-up people in real times, countries, cultures, social contexts, engaging, sometimes horrible, and heartbreaking human behavior perpetuated and exhibited that was and is a “just the way things are” mentality; good examples (from gazillions), Paul Rutman’s (c) 2015 miniseries, INDIAN SUMMERS and the (c) 2007 book A THOUSAND SPLENDID SUNS by Khaled Hassein. While I’ve never literally walked in their character’s shoes, their soul-searching depictions however provide quite an intimate insight of particular views that need to be told and better understood so we collectively can be more compassionate and eliminate harmful and life-damaging, life-taking attitudes and behaviors.
Love shoes make for understanding; for fun try some of these shoes…clown, ruby red slippers, stiletto, kung fu, moon-walkers, jazz, clogs, mules, kitten…meow.
