DARE BRAIN: November 3, 2015
With a steaming mug of hot Irish tea, in my cozy cogitative corner, it is understanding I seek.
A library, private or public, is a mighty fine keeper of knowledge. Of course y’all know this!
How fortunate we are to live when collecting knowledge (books) is so affordable. Being avid readers, my family had amassed such a large amount of books that (again) last summer we had to make a donation of 13+ boxes of books. Well will you look at that? It has made room for some new reads.
Our sweet HURREETEN Cottage family library is small, only 4,000 or so books sit on (or near) our shelves, very eclectic in nature, there are of course the classics, how-to-books, science, cook books, garden and children books etc., We also have a treasure of inspirational gurus, thought provoking philosophers, fantastic mentors and awesome teachers of all sorts…so many gems vying for our attention, I so need more time!
I wanted to start with a book I received as a gift from my son Keith about 8 years ago. Because it is a book about the history of libraries, keepers of knowledge, it helps us understand how the library on one hand accumulated and preserved knowledge and on the other hand desired to contain and control all forms of human knowledge, even sometimes a terrible destruction occurred within their hallowed walls.
LIBRARY, AN UNQUIET HISTORY, by Matthew Battles. OK, so I don’t recall ALL the details, after all it has been 8 years since I read it, however this is a book that will increase your knowledge about knowledge.
Maybe my next book should be how to retain and recall knowledge once you’ve gained it no matter how much time has passed!
This has been a deb’s witty ditty on deb’s ditty blog.
